Hair Removal Part 1: Facial Hair
When it comes to taking care of your eyebrows, which method do you prefer? Would you pluck, wax and thread? I personally was not a fan of plucking, pulling one strand of hair at a time. It is extremely annoying as well as tedious knowing that there are so many hairs to pull. However, the advantage is that you have great control, and can accurately choose the hairs you’re removing.
Now waxing is painful but quick, the next thing you know you are done and out of the salon. When you’re doing it yourself it may take a little longer, because you have to psyche yourself out. I actually like the feeling of the wax touching my face. It is somewhat relaxing, well, that is until the strip is pushed down on my face. Then I know it’s time to brace myself for the pull. The thing about waxing my eyebrows was that I sometimes broke out, even if I put on alcohol and lotion after. My breakouts could be due to several reasons, but I was told that it might have to do with the chemicals that is in the wax. Basically if you have sensitive skin, then waxing might not be for you.
So instead of waxing, for the last 7 years I have been getting my eyebrows threaded. I will occasionally pluck, or wax but for the most part threading is my number one choice. What is threading you ask? Threading is a technique that was originated in India, the technique involves a piece of cotton thread that is twisted to a double strand to create friction to pick up a line of hair at a time. Threading can be used on unwanted hair. My first experience was something else. I was so scared and amazed due to the sheer fact that I have never seen anyone remove hair with a piece of string. As I held my eyelid with one hand and the top of my eyebrow with the other. I began to sweat and wondered if I would make it through. I felt the string push against my hair pulling line by line. My eyes started to water and I felt like I wanted to sneeze. After she was done, I was still in slight pain but the alcohol and lotion helped cool it down after a few minutes. I loved the way my eyebrows were shaped and had precision. Threading lasts up to 3 or 4 weeks before you have to come back and it is also very inexpensive. The more I went, the less painful it became. Plus, the satisfaction is well worth the little pain that you do feel.
I would recommended threading over plucking because it removes a line of hair at a time. It’s also quicker and easier to shape than tweezing plus it removes all the fine hair that frequent waxing creates. However they say to each its own..personally, I prefer threading. But if you prefer waxing or plucking then by all means enjoy. There is no right or wrong option. Our bodies are made differently so if there is a method you like, stick with it. However, remember you do have options.
